The Dave Berry Breakfast Show and Merton Group UK Ltd are starting a movement for England.
It’s Coming Home… And So Is A Day Off For Staff
During his breakfast show on Thursday 9th July, on Absolute Radio, Dave Berry put out a call to find a UK business willing to make a stand, an organisation willing to fly the flag for the working man.
Dave was inspired by the Scotland – Haiti game, and the Scottish government graciously granting a bank holiday due to its 2am kick-off.
The breakfast show host called on its 5 million listeners and asked for a UK company to join his mission. Hoping to reward his listeners and potentially start a movement.
Merton Group UK Ltd are a Cleaning and Hygiene Manufacturer & Supplier to the Facility Management industry, and their Managing Director – Mike Maybury, heard that call.
On Friday 10th, to Dave Berry’s absolute joy, Mike agreed that if England won Saturday’s match against Norway, he would give the entire Company the Monday off!
The Leicester based organisation are a National supplier to over 4.5 thousand locations across the UK and Ireland but despite being busy and the operational challenges it would create, MGUK were caught up in the patriotism.

Jeopardy To Overcome –
Mike joked on the show that he was yet to tell the Chairman/Owners of Merton Group about giving 42 people the day off whilst the rest of the country was at work on Monday. He told listeners not to worry as “he had it covered with some Michael Jordan cutouts, and some record players” explaining he was going to “pull a Home Alone” referencing the classic film where Kevin Macalister (Macauly Culkin) was left at home fending off robbers by making his house look full with the afore mentioned cutouts and record players.
The MD has since confirmed that the Chairman are up to speed and aware and he hasn’t lost his seat at the table just yet.
The company believes that investing in employee wellbeing and creating positive workplace experiences is an important part of building a successful business. The proposed day off has already generated excitement among staff, many of whom will be watching the match and cheering on England.
